Barry joined the firm in 1971, and has been a Partner since 1973, Senior Partner since 1987.

An accredited member of the Solicitors Regulatory Authority Clinical Negligence Panel, Barry Speker has acted for Health Authorities and NHS Trust clients for many years as well as for Claimants securing high damages awards in many complex medical negligence actions. He lectures widely to Solicitors, Doctors and other health professionals on all aspects of medical law. He is also a member of AVMA.

Barry has also specialised in family law for over 30 years and is a member of the Solicitors Family Law Association (now called Resolution) and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority Children Panel for which he interviews on behalf of the SRA. He is also a Convenor of the Children Panel Support Group. He also acts as legal adviser to Barnardo's North East, NSPCC, NCH North East, DFW Adoption and SWIIS having a special interest in adoption. He is also on the boards of Victim Support, North East Council on Addictions, Age Concern and various other charities.

Barry Speker also specialises in Employment Law and sits as a part time Chairman of the Employment Tribunal and is a past President of the Newcastle Law Society.

Outside of the law Barry was a Board Director of the Grainger Town Partnership and Chairman of the Business Forum. He is now Chairman of the Newcastle Partnership and of the City Centre Business Forum and a Govenor of Heaton Manor School. He is also a member of the Newcastle Committee of the North East Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of the Legal Aid No 8 Area Committee and the Clinical Negligence Sub Committee.
