Nunthorpe Primary Academy converted to an Academy, as planned on June 1st 2014.  Working with Samuel Phillips, in particular with Chris Anderson & David Laud, has taken the pressure off staff at Nunthorpe.

The role will involve a diverse range of client work including landlord and tenant work, agricultural matters, property finance, acquisitions, disposals and large-scale development work. The successful candidate will support a senior associate.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Opening and closing files.
  • File management.
  • Audio and copy typing fee earners’ correspondence.
  • Assisting with title, due diligence and reporting, including the submission, collation and review of searches and enquiries.
  • Managing documentation and assisting with the formulation and engrossment of contractual documentation (principally leases and other property-related documents).
  • Dealing with post completion registration and stamp duty land tax formalities.
  • Interacting with clients and third-parties as necessary.
  • Photocopying, faxing, emailing and general administration to support the team and the firm as a whole by covering for absence of other secretaries.
  • Occasion reception cover, taking deliveries and banking.

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Residential Conveyancing Solicitor (1-3 years PQE) to immediately join our thriving property department.

We are offering a competitive salary which is negotiable depending on experience and the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 months experience in Residential Conveyancing with a current practising certificate.

You will be able to handle a full caseload of residential conveyancing work (upwards of 50 files) and ensure that all transactions run smoothly.  You should be fully experienced in all types of conveyancing transactions such as freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, re-mortgages and transfers of equity.  Experience in dealing with new builds, auction sales and purchases, and working to tight deadlines will be preferable.

You will be an ambitious good team player, who is capable of handling their own caseload, and keen to develop business and network opportunities.  You will also need to possess excellent client care and communication skills and assist with the training and supervision of our trainees.

Training Contracts

At Samuel Phillips we recognise the importance of training and development and the need to encourage new talent within the legal sector.

As a result of our current plans for growth we have three trainees within the firm.  As a result of these recent additions we do not have a requirement to recruit further trainees at the present time.

Work Experience

We offer a small number of work experience placements. We only accept applications in the period of the 1st January to 1st February in any given year for placements from the 1st March to 31st December. Any applications received outside the period 1st January to 1st February are disregarded. We do not respond to applications unless we offer a placement.

Samuel Phillips & Co was established by Mr. Samuel Phillips in 1920 at 86 Pilgrim Street when the office was a small part of the building. Samuel Phillips moved to larger and more prestigious premises at Gibb Chambers, 52 Westgate Road in 1998.

Initially, the firm concentrated on conveyancing, probate and general family work, but in the last 20 years there has been very considerable expansion and the firm now holds a reputation for specialism in a number of important fields of law, including clinical negligence and medical law, family and child care law, civil litigation, employment law, commercial law, as well as continuing to handle core, private and business client matters.

The firm continues to expand and in April 2005 merged with Jesmond practice E.J. Pybus reinforcing its reputation for expert legal services delivered in a professional and reliable manner.
